Description:
Polyester is a sterile non-absorbable, braided, synthetic, suture composed of Polyethylene terephthalate (polyester). Polyester Sutures are dyed green/blue and coated with Silicon which grants extraordinary smoothness, softness and non-thrombogenic features to the suture. Polyester Sutures are available from USP sizes: 7/0 - USP2.

Indications:
Polyester is indicated for use in general surgery. It is suitable for use in soft tissues and for ligation, including use in ophthalmic procedures, orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular and neurological tissues.

Effects:
Polyester may cause an acute inflammatory reaction of tissue followed by a slow formation of fibrose connective tissue around the suture. While Polyester is not absorbed by the tissue, the progressive degradation of the proteinaceous Polyester fibre in vivo results in the total loss of the suture's tensile strength within one year.

Contraindications:
On account of the gradual loss of strength, which can occur in vivo within one year, the use of Polyester is not recommended when a permanent retention of tensile strength is required.

Warnings:
Polyester should not be re-sterilized. Contents in packing have been sterilized. Opened, unused package should be discarded and Polyester should be stored at room temperature. Avoid exposure to extremes of temperature for long periods. Extended contact with saline solutions such as those found in urinary and biliary tracts may result in gallstone formation around the suture. The user shall be familiar with the surgical procedures and techniques using non-absorbable sutures before applying this product. This is important due to the fact that would dehiscence and formation of connective tissue depends on the area of the application and the nature of the suture used. As with any foreign material, in the presence of bacterial infection this suture may enhance bacterial infection. Acceptable surgical practice must be followed with respect to drainage and closure of infected or contaminated wounds.
Precautions:
When working with Suture materials great care must be taken to ensure that the use of surgical instruments, such as tweezers or needle holders, does not lead to damage by pinching or kinking. The user of Polyester suture material must be familiar with surgical suture techniques. Knot security requires the standard surgical technique of the surgeon or square ties with additional throws as indicated by surgical circumstance and the experience of the surgeon.

Instructions for Use:
Employ according to acceptable surgical procedures used for non-absorbable sutures and taking the area of application into consideration.

Adverse Reactions:
These may include the following: wound dehiscence; loss of total tensile strength within one year; gallstone formation in urinary and biliary tracts when in prolonged contact with saline fluids such as urine and bile; enhanced propensity to bacterial infection; acute inflammatory tissue reaction; pain, temporary local edema and erythema around the wound.

Product Packaging:
Polyester sutures are supplied in a box with 12 sutures from gauges 2 to 7-0. Sutures are available in different lengths, with one or two or without needle.
